The Heart of the Calling

Who is Asha?

The Heart of the Calling

Asha came into my life as a baby during a season when I needed someone to care for, having no children of my own. She was strong, courageous, and independent—a kindred spirit who often felt misunderstood because she had her own way of thinking. Through her, God taught me the most profound lesson of self-grace: "You are okay just the way you are."

For nearly eleven years, we were constant companions until the devastating news of aggressive cancer changed everything. I would have gone to the ends of the earth to save her, but despite every battle we fought, she began to slip away.

A Final Act of Mercy

On the day she passed, Asha showed me the true depth of her courage. Though she was never a naturally affectionate dog, she spent her final hours consoling me. She knew I was destroyed, and in a beautiful reversal of roles, she put my heart before her own, constantly licking my face to comfort me.

She died in my arms while I rubbed every part of her body, desperate to memorize the feel of her so I would never forget. As they placed her on a stretcher and began to drive away, I ran to the van for one last goodbye. I asked them to uncover her face so my final memory could be of her peaceful, sleeping strength. I told them, "Do not cover her," and I watched her go, knowing my life was forever altered.

From Loss to Legacy

Asha's death was the mirror that showed me how short life truly is. It was the catalyst that gave me the courage to finally answer God's call. Six months later, I sold my home and moved to this land, naming the sanctuary in her honor.

When I first arrived and saw visions of her running joyfully across these pastures, I knew I was exactly where I was meant to be. Asha's spirit lives on in every blade of grass and every life saved. She is the "Hope" that proved that from the deepest grief, God can grow a sanctuary of mercy.
