Darsha was born blind at a dairy farm, where she was tragically torn from her loving mother.
Darsha's Story
Born blind and considered "unprofitable" at a dairy farm, Darsha was only a couple weeks old when they slated her for slaughter. Miraculously, a compassionate individual intervened, pleading for her life and facilitating her surrender to Asha’s. Tracy immediately transported Darsha to the hospital where the tragic news was confirmed: she would never have physical sight. More poignantly, doctors discovered a hole in her heart—a condition Tracy believes was a physical manifestation of the trauma caused by being separated from her mother just hours after birth. Doctors told Tracy if the hole grew, Darsha would not make it. At that moment, Tracy named her "Darsha," which means "to see, perceive, and have vision," believing Darsha proves that sight is not required to navigate a world of kindness. Tracy often describes her as having a "divine third eye"—a white spot in the middle of her forehead—perceiving a world of love and peace. Darsha is rarely alone, sharing the special needs area with two faithful sheep and Lou Bear, a young steer still too little to join the large herd. Despite her size and lack of vision, Darsha navigates her surroundings with calm confidence, relying on her heightened senses. Her presence at the sanctuary serves as a powerful reminder that every animal, regardless of their physical abilities, deserves a life of dignity and love. She continues to inspire visitors to look past the surface and, like her, learn to see with their hearts. You see, that hole never grew.
